Newborn sleepy cues to avoid meltdowns

Do you see how the sleepy cues progress and intensify? Sometimes this happens gradually; sometimes, your little one may seem instant overtired. There's a “Ready for a nap” sweet spot right in the middle. As those “Getting tired” signs show up, that's your cue to start the naptime routine.

Important: Not every baby will show all the signs on our guide. Tune into your little one to spot their personal sleep cues.

Missed that nap window? If your baby is overtired, you need to decrease stimulation. Head to a dim room, and turn on the sound machine with white noise. You can try the 5s technique to soothe any fussiness.

A key tip: Often, what seems like colic is just an overtired baby. You can also follow the appropriate wake window for your baby's age. This will help you anticipate sleepiness and when to look for those sleepy cues to avoid meltdown moments.
